"We can only benefit from such an organization."

Ranks are not commonplace for wild wolf packs, but the wolfish creatures that lived within Fading Footsteps have now had to come together and compose their own structure. Ranking is not set in stone and seems to mimic that of the outdated Alpha/Omega dominance theory, though it is not entirely unrealistic in the case of unrelated canines forging a coterie.

The Alpha is the pack's ringleader, a wolf[dog] who has the experience and intelligence needed to lead the pack. They lead the pack on journies, eat first from any kill, and work at solving the most glaring of the pack's problems.

The Beta is the Alpha's favorite, a wolf[dog] who has proven themselves to be loyal and skilled and is willing to dedicate their efforts to serving as Second in Command. They enforce the Alpha's orders.

The Gammas are the muscle of the pack, and are appreciated by the Alpha and Beta as body guards of sorts. Only the most physically fit and massive of all the pack can be considered Gammas.

The Deltas function as the scouts of the pack, marking the territory, chasing out pests such as coyotes, and warning the others of any danger. They are extremely quick animals, fast enough to descend upon any wandering scavengers or invading loners in mere moments.

The Epsilons are merely the subordinates of the group - they are neither here nor there, neither extremely skilled or talentless, and are simply considered less blessed by nature then their Gamma and Delta comrades but treated better by life then the Omegas.

The Omegas are considered the everymen of the group. They may or may not be scapegoats, they may or may not be respected, but they are considered the weakest or dumbest or clumsiest of the pack. They are usually left with the burden of playing nanny while the other wolves are away, but they can also participate in hunts and explorations.

The Cubs are too young to be ranked as one thing or another, but they are some of the most valuble pack members. Everyone pitches in to care for the puppies in their own way, and because of the way the pack operates, can be birthed by anybody.
